Hancock County Sheriff’s Reserves: Joining Requirements:
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Reserve Division is a volunteer unit dedicated to community safety, crowd control, and supporting full-time deputies. To ensure the highest level of safety and community trust, all applicants must meet strict local and state-mandated guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
Residency: Must be a resident living within Hancock County, West Virginia, or within 15 air miles of the Hancock County line.
Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Character Standards: Must be of good moral character and demonstrate a commitment to personal integrity and high ethical standards.
Background & Legal Checks
Criminal Record: Must have no criminal record. This includes zero prior convictions for felonies or misdemeanor crimes involving moral turpitude (such as fraud, theft, or domestic violence).
Background Investigation: All candidates must successfully pass an extensive, comprehensive background check, which includes fingerprinting, driving record evaluation, and personal reference checks.
